Description

Hex #1 is an elegant high stool, which echoes the same design of the Hex#2 chair. The components are assembled together and held by screws that stiffen the assembly. The seat is made by 13 FSC-certified birch plywood racks with Ecological tail (Lignin-based), gently curved, creating an ergonomic and comfortable surface despite the solidity of the material. Its surface is flat and lacquered (water resistant) while its edges are treated by hand with natural hard wax oil.

It is also available in other heights: 45 cm (low stool) and 73 cm. They are sold in flatpack format to be easily and easily assembled by the end user.

Hoioh Design

Functional wooden furniture

Hoioh Design is a small company founded in 2019 by three friends united by their passion for furniture design. Based in Poble Sec (Barcelona), they create playful wooden furniture, locally produced in Girona using certified plywood. Their core values are sustainability, honesty, and transparency. The name Hoioh originates from the word "Hoyo," meaning "hole" or "cavity." A hole is made in wood to define a shape, to connect it with another; it opens up possibilities for change, interaction, and combination. A hole is also an empty space that invites our creativity to fill and define it. This is what Hoioh is: a blank canvas, a place to play, experiment, and create. Hoioh Design is strongly influenced by Japanese culture and aesthetics, and especially by origami, which has become an integral part of their identity. When you buy from Hoioh Design, you get a product made to last, to be used and lived in, something that will maintain its beauty over time. Something you won't want to part with the next time you move to a new home. At Hoioh, they want you to rediscover the joy of buying something unique that may have slight variations and imperfections but has been produced just for you. Ultimately, it's about choosing conscious consumption. A place where you can buy playful wooden furniture designed and produced locally with passion and care. All their pieces are digitally cut and finished by hand; they are shipped flat-packed for easy on-site assembly. Hoioh produces individual pieces or small series using a balanced combination of CNC (machine-cutting) technology and handcrafted finishing, using certified plywood. The use of digital CNC technology allows for optimization, quality, and repeatability, while also enabling them to produce on demand or in small batches. This avoids excess stock, reducing logistical needs and storage space, and therefore lowering the carbon footprint inherent in the production process. They want their customers to rediscover the magic of time, as a more conscious and local production process doesn't happen instantly. They understand that this is difficult nowadays, when we expect everything to be immediate, but it's something they believe humanity needs to change and rediscover for its own survival: the value of patience, the appreciation for the effort put into the product. Packaging is an important component when buying a product, so Hoioh pays special attention to it. All products are carefully packaged in custom-made, recycled cardboard boxes. Their goal is to minimize fillers and wrapping as much as possible, using sustainable materials when necessary. They also include a small square of paper with a QR code in each package, which takes you to their online instructions, thus minimizing single-use paper. You can turn each square into origami so nothing goes to waste.

Hoioh Design, co-designed by Luca Castiglioni (e-commerce consultant), Gastón Gil (artist/designer), and Roger Llimós (architect), met at Ca l'Agustí, a co-working space in Poble Sec. When Luca moved from London to Barcelona in 2017, he immediately fell in love with Gastón's work and, in the following months, bought and commissioned several pieces of furniture. Roger and Gastón were already collaborating on various architectural projects, and the three quickly became friends, sharing their passion for design and wooden furniture. When the original IN project won the Aldo Morelato Prize in Milan the following year, the idea arose to find a way to mass-produce it.
