Dvelas

Manufacturers of contemporary designer furniture

DVELAS’s distinctive products give a second life to materials discarded by the sail-making industry, combining the durability and strength of the raw materials with creative, innovative design inspired by professional sail-making techniques. Recycled sails serve as the sustainable raw material for these various products; only a limited series is produced from each sail. Every creation is labeled with details regarding the original sail's provenance: its port of origin, the vessel it belonged to, the original manufacturer, the sail type, and its serial number. While all DVELAS products embody a piece of the material's history, some possess particularly unique aesthetic qualities—specifically those crafted from sail sections featuring small markings, manufacturer logos, or colored details—making these creations truly one-of-a-kind objects.

Eco-designer. This architect from San SebastiĆ”n, driven by an inquisitive and entrepreneurial spirit, is the founder of DVELAS, a company that produces contemporary, eco-designed furniture. Through his talent, Kahle explores the potential of familiar materials, finding new uses for them and coaxing them to behave in unexpected ways. In doing so, he brings the sea breeze and the sound of the tides into our living rooms through eco-design, giving a second life to recycled boat sails. His work has earned acclaim in the worlds of design and architecture, most notably the 2012 A’ Design Award in the Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns, and Cloth Design category; a 2013 Design Award (runner-up) from the Basque-Navarre Official Association of Architects (COAVN) for the DVELAS furniture collection; and a finalist spot for the Catalonia Eco-design Award in 2015.
