A. Schulman is a leading plastics manufacturer specializing in polyethylene coloring. During the production process, the plastic is reduced to powder for easier packaging and circulates through various channels that can retain traces of previous plastics. To guarantee perfect color, the factory systematically discards the first 100 kilograms of each production run. This safety margin generates up to 10 tons of waste per month. In our workshops, this powder is fed into a machine that transforms it into liquid plastic spaghetti.
A one-sided mold collects the molten material, contrasting a controlled and comfortable interior surface with an irregular exterior surface that tells the story of its manufacturing process. This is how the Gravene 6.7 Armchair with wooden legs. The barrel company NT Bois uses exceptional oak from forests planted by Colbert to make its barrels. During the edging process, some pieces, too thin to be used as staves, end up as firewood. The base of the Gravêne 5.5 has been designed to fit these small offcuts and save these two-hundred-year-old oak pieces.
