Description

The Hippokamp lounge chair is a tribute to furniture as an art form: a lounge chair’s response to a symphony orchestrated by Peter Qvist. With this chair, the art of engineering meets poetry in all its simplicity. The name Hippokamp comes from the Greek word hippokamp, meaning “seahorse.” Most often, it depicts a mythological creature riding a serpent, sometimes with wings, pulling the chariot of the god Poseidon. With Hippokamp, they have created a small “seahorse” in the form of a stool.

The Hippokamp armchair is made of laminated birch veneer, individually oiled and waxed to give the wood a smooth, silky finish. The product design is created using 3D technology. Once the basic shape is established, the goal is to define the lines while maintaining a strong connection between the elements. After several prototypes and meticulous work, the final design is defined. The different pieces of wood are processed with a milling machine, generating minimal waste of the original material. The edges are rounded by hand, and each element is then sanded both by machine and by hand.
