Woodworking is an art
Gradirripas is a small family business run by the Violante family, who since 1885 (and now five generations later) have passed down their knowledge from generation to generation, giving new life to wood. Their workshop is located in Pernes, a small village between the cities of SantarĆ©m and Torres Novas, where they have been consistently producing high-quality work for over 130 years, respecting Portuguese roots and traditions and reviving old but still useful products. Although their philosophy is based on the saying "true wisdom lies in simplicity," they have transformed wooden boards into more than just a tool for preparing food, making them a special addition to the table, a true kitchen accessory. To better meet the expectations and needs of their customers, they specialize in three types of wood: pine, ash, and oak, all certified and sourced from suppliers with reforestation policies. Small, family-run, and localāthis value is reflected in the relationships they build every day with their suppliers and customers. Based on this principle, they have naturally adopted behaviors and strategies that uphold what they value. All their employees are highly experienced individuals who live in or near their town, most of them with family roots in the timber industry. These are skilled and talented people who, nevertheless, find themselves in precarious employment situations. Supporting the local economy: Their main network of suppliers, which covers the daily needs of their business, is located in Pernes and the surrounding area. When that isn't possible, they always find a solution in Portugal, prioritizing local timber over other sources, which allows them to reduce the carbon footprint inherent in their production process. Zero waste: Aware of the environmental impact of their activity, they only buy wood from suppliers who guarantee reforestation. And they make the most of their raw materials, transforming what would be waste into useful everyday products. What they cannot reuse, they donate to small local businesses (wood for bakery ovens, wood shavings for poultry bedding, etc.).
